Issues
MWPC's Challenges:

* To increase women’s participation in the political process;

* To increase the number of feminist women in elected and appointed
positions;

* To support candidates who will work for women’s issues and who will
employ women in decision-making roles in their campaigns and office
staffs;

* To work for the repeal of laws which discriminate on the basis of sex;

* To win equality for women;

* To draft and support legislation that complies with the principles of
human equality and that concern the needs of women.
Political Parity by 2020!

The National Women's Political
Caucus has a goal of achieving
political parity (50 percent
women in elected and
appointed office) by 2020. The
Missouri board meets
regularly to move us closer to
that goal.
The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA)

Senators Jolie Justus and Joan Bray reintroduced the ratification of the
Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the Missouri Senate in 2010. The ERA
simply states that "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex."

Support for the ERA is a bottom-line issue for the Caucus. For more
information on this 50-year effort to amend the U.S. Constitution, Caucus
member JoAnn Hughes recommends reading Gail Collin's book, "When
Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960
to the Present."
Vision 2020

Vision 2020 is a national
project focused on advancing
gender equality by energizing
the dialogue about women and
leadership.

Its first public event takes
place on Oct. 21-22, 2010,
when a congress of national
delegates, representing all 50
states and the District of
Columbia, will meet at the
National Constitution Center in
Philadelphia to launch an
action agenda to move
America toward equality by
2020, the centennial
celebration of the 19th
Amendment.
